Academia, officials, students hail Verkooijen's UoN leadership

Professor Stephen Kiama, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, expressed gratitude to Professor Verkooijen for accepting the role and praised the strategic appointment made by President William Ruto.
President Ruto, thrilled by Professor Verkooijen's appointment, highlighted his unrivaled experience and leadership in confronting crucial issues such as climate change. The president emphasised that African youth deserve the opportunity to realise their dreams. According to the president, education plays a fundamental role in achieving a resilient future.

The newly appointed Chancellor; Professor Verkooijen, has an impressive background in higher education, having held leadership positions and established himself as a global figure in climate adaptation. He is the CEO of the Global Center on Adaptation and has worked closely with influential figures such as Ban Ki Moon, Bill Gates and Kristalina Georgieva.
As the Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, Professor Verkooijen aims to make the institution a top incubator for African talent and a shining example of sustainable goals. This five-year appointment marks the first time a non-Kenyan holds such a position in a Kenyan public university.
